Renovations in schools have numerous benefits for students, teachers and the overall learning environment. Ngwanalaka Secondary School has a rich history and sentimental
value to the village as it came into existence in the year 1984 and it was named after the late Kgoshi Mothiba the father of the reigning Kgoshi.
The school was identified to need renovations. The renovations started in February 2022 and were completed in a period of fourteen months, on time, cost-effectively, and quality.
The scope of works included refurbishment of 21 classrooms, admin block, 16 enviro-loo seats, demolition of 06 pit toilets, upgrade fence to steel palisade fence, water reticulation, sewer reticulation, stormwater reticulation, parking and paving, carport, drill and equip borehole, and provide elevated tank stands.
The MEC for Limpopo Department of Education joined by the IDT Head PMSU Mr Tumisho Makofane, officially handed over the refurbished building of Ngwanalaka Secondary School on 22 June 2023 in Gamothiba Village in Polokwane. “The community of Ga-Mothiba and Ngwanalaka to be specific can attest that education is now free for all. Our children are attending classes in improved conditions compared to the past’’ MEC Mavhungu Lerule- Ramakhanya.
The Independent Development Trust plays a crucial role in advancing socio-economic development in South Africa, particularly in historically marginalised areas. “The project created 10 job opportunities for local community members and local sub-contractors and suppliers were also given preference during renovations of the school” Tumisho Makofane. The MEC and Mr. Makhofane both concluded their addresses by pleading with the community to take care and protect the school.
